Introduction
The Bion Working Group first convened in July, 2007 over questions we had about a rough proposal for an ethanol plant combined with a large feedlot operation. There were a number of initial concerns that triggered the group, but the most obvious was the addition of 84,000 cattle to the 39-56,000 cattle (estimates vary) currently in the county.
About this Website
This site is dedicated to providing the citizens of St. Lawrence County with access to information about ethanol plants and large-scale, investor-owned, farms and feedlot projects such as the one currently proposed by BION, and news about the Bion project. It is also a place where people can comment on the project and the research.
Research Opportunities
As we consider the various impacts - both positive and negative - from the proposed Bion project, there will be a number of opportunities for students and professional researchers to contribute to the analysis. Questions about ground water contamination, labor issues, land use, transportation and much more need to be addressed.
